New Ballad Songs And Singers
A ballad can defined as a short narrative poem whose purpose is to be sung but it’s different because it has a simple but dramatic theme. Ballads can be about death, love the supernatural or anything! Many morals are famous because they hide a moral in them, well hidden in the last stanzas. In history we can see that ballads were especially popular from the later medieval period till the 19th century. They were a special characteristic of the famous poetry and song of the British Isle. They were especially famous across whole of Europe and after some time they became equally famous in the Americas, Australia and Northern Parts of Africa. The oldest form of ballads consisted of a single sheet broadside which was commonly used by poets and composers which later transformed to lyrical ballads. These days ballads are generally associated with any slow form of a love song mostly the pop or rock power ballad.
Ballads have different types. Some of them are:
Broadsheet Ballads
They are also known as street ballads. They can be distinguished as they are:
· Printed cheap of cost. They are humorous.
· Sub-genres
o Murder ballads
§ They are told form the killers point of view. They usually end with the killer escaping or being caught.
Folk Ballads
· They are usually anonymous and most of them have their origins unknown.
· Sub-genres
o Border ballads
Literary Ballads
· They are written and composed in a formal manner but are sung orally.
Opera Ballads
· They are an english form and are sung in opera houses etc.
Jazz Ballads
· Many modern rock, pop and country songs label any slow song as ballad but for a song to be a ballad it must be in ballad form.
